Farewell ceremonies announced for deploying 256th Soldiers

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Soldiers of the Louisiana Army National Guard's 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team will bid farewell to family and friends at deployment ceremonies on Jan. 5 to Jan. 11 in various locations throughout the state.

Approximately 3,000 Guardsmen from the 256th IBCT will depart for Camp Shelby, Miss., to conduct training for approximately two months prior to deploying to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Their primary missions will be to provide force protection on military bases and security for convoys.

The 256th last deployed to Iraq in 2004 on an 18-month tour.
