DWI in southwest Louisiana

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office will be conducting several DWI check points through out the area, to try and deter drunks from driving.

"Our goal is not to just arrest people. Our concern is drinking and driving. That is what we want from the public," said Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso.

But, on top of the check points the, Sheriff's office will also be out on a roving DWI detail. Officers will be out actively looking for drunk drivers.

"We want to step up enforcement and try to tell people that we're out there, and that is what we are looking for," said Sheriff Mancuso.

Sheriff Mancuso said it is okay to have fun during the holiday, but it is all about how you do it.

"We like to have a good time in Louisiana, but let's not cloud the issue of having a good time and being responsible," said Sheriff Mancuso.

According to Guy's towing, they will come get you if you have had too much to drink.

"If someone over drinks they can call us. A truck will be dispatched out to them, in the Lake Charles area, and we'll give them a free ride home, no questions asked," said Trula McNease with Guy's Towing.

A free ride home is certainly an easier price to pay than a free ride to jail.
