Cecil Douglas, known throughout the Southwest Louisiana region for his generosity and volunteer work, died this morning surrounded by his friends and family. He had been battling Lou Gehrig's disease for the past three years, which is a neurodegenerative condition that eventually leads to paralysis.
Cecil donated his body to science, so instead of a funeral his family will hold a memorial service. It'll be held Tuesday night from 7-9 P.M. at the Maplewood/Hollywood Lions Club on Maplewood Drive in Sulphur.
One of the many organizations that Cecil dedicated his time to was the Louisiana Lions League for Crippled Children. If you'd like to make a donation you can call them at 1-800-348-6567 or go to their website at http://www.lionscamp.org/html/foundation.html.
