Kay Barnett, Executive Director of Development for CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital, recently obtained her CFRE, making her a Certified Fund Raising Executive. The CFRE certification identifies a fund raising professional as one who has demonstrated mastery by confirming proficiency and knowledge in the field against international standards in philanthropy.
The CFRE process requires a comprehensive written application followed by a written exam. CFRE designees must have at least five years of paid, professional practice in fundraising, pass the written exam, and meet a number of minimum eligibility requirements in the areas of education, professional practice, professional performance and community service. CFRE certification also requires recertification every three years.
Barnett states, "I look forward to sharing my knowledge with our donors, the community and other fund raising executives throughout the area. The CFRE process has given me the opportunity to be part of a practice-based program designed to measure knowledge in the use of applying skills and real-life experiences as a fund raiser."
Besides overseeing the fundraising programs at the Hospital Foundation, Barnett also currently serves as President of the Board of Commissioners for the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District, Port of Lake Charles. She has received certifications in Planned Giving, Capital Campaigns and Major Gift Fundraising from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business and Association for Healthcare Philanthropy. She is an active member of the Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations, the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy and the United Way.
