BATON ROUGE, LA (KPLC) – New LSU assistant coaches Billy Gonzales and Frank Wilson will coach in the CapitalOne Bowl.
Gonzales replaces D.J. McCarthy as the receivers coach, and Wilson replaces Larry Porter as the running backs coach. Both have received clearance by the NCAA to coach LSU against Penn State.
Les Miles originally confirmed that Larry Porter would still coach the running backs. He made the announcement after Porter accepted the position as Memphis head coach. However, now Wilson will coach the running backs, and he has already made a good impression.
Running back Stevan Ridley stated, "Coach Wilson seems to be a great coach and I'm looking forward to it. He came from Tennessee and Ole Miss during the time they were recruiting me, and to be honest with you I don't really remember him at Ole Miss, but it's funny when he got here he remembered me. So it's awesome as far as recruiting wise because I wasn't a big recruit coming out of high school, and for him to remember me when he said I was up there, just says a lot about the person he is."
The CapitalOne Bowl will be played on January 1, 2010 at 12:00 p.m.
