CPSO announces DWI roving detail for the holidays

Lake Charles, LA – In a continuing effort to keep the citizens of Calcasieu Parish safe, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office will be conducting a roving DWI detail throughout the parish from December 19 through January 4, 2010.

This roving DWI detail includes extra deputies, in addition to regularly-scheduled patrol deputies, patrolling the parish strictly looking for impaired drivers during this holiday season, targeting individuals driving under the influence of alcohol and/or narcotics.  It has proven to be very effective in discouraging people from driving while impaired and they are more likely to designate a driver when they know these details are being done.

"With all the parties during the holiday season, alcohol consumption is up, so we want to keep the citizens on the road in our parish safe by keeping impaired drivers off the road," says Sheriff Tony Mancuso.

This DWI detail is funded by a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
