Holiday gifts with a healthy kick

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Are you still looking around for that perfect Christmas present?  This week, we have a few special holiday-related Healthcasts that just might give you the a gift idea that reaps health benefits lasting far beyond the holiday season.

Between work, home and daily demands - who doesn't deserve a little pampering?  This holiday season, Tracy Wilburn with Bienvenu Aesthetics says you can't go wrong in your gift-giving when it comes to cosmetic procedures like facials and in this cooler weather: Microdermabrasion.

"A lot of times, people wouldn't spend that kind of money on themselves," says Wilburn, "especially around this time and Christmas time is a great time to get microdermabrasion anyway, because we've had all the summer build-up of sun damage."

Microdermabrasion stimulates the production of skin cells and collagen through a gentle polishing process.  "We have three layers of skin," says Wilburn, "and the top layer is usually just dead skin and we don't take off the dead skin often enough."

A combination of skin prepping ingredients and the microdermabrasion machine slough off those dead skin cells giving way to a healthier complexion.  "What it does is slough off the outer layer of skin with crystals," says Wilburn, "and then it actually feels like a little vacuum, so it sucks off the pores and all of the dead skin that's there."

Each treatment takes about 30 minutes to an hour, but the effects last much longer.  "The new skin cells can come out and give you that refreshed new glow and healthy skin," says Wilburn.

A full microderm treatment also includes a facial mask and european massage - with a total package cost under $100.

*If you purchase a Bienvenu gift card in the month of December, you can also register to win a european facial, latisse or relaxing microdermabrasion treatment.  Call 439-2040 for more information.
