BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The state health department says about 10,900 doses of pediatric swine flu vaccine shipped to Louisiana were among the 800,000 doses being recalled nationwide.
But State Health Officer Jimmy Guidry stressed Wednesday there were no safety concerns with the vaccine involved in the recall and says all form of the vaccine remain safe. A French company said tests showed the vaccine it is recalling may have lost some of its strength. The Department of Health and Hospitals says 610 doses of the recalled vaccine were administered to Louisiana children.
The department says the lots of recalled vaccine were found to be potent enough that children who received it don't need to be re-vaccinated. DHH says all health providers who received the recalled vaccine have been notified by the state.
