Young lawyer's helping hands

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - There is very little order in the third court of appeals, with it looking more like a toy store than a courtroom. Members of the Young Lawyers section of the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association have been collecting toys for needy kids.

"It really is very rewarding. There are a lot of kids in need in the southwest Louisiana area. So again, we just trying to help out anyway we can," said Peter Pohorelsky with the Young Lawyers.

"It helps the community, and it is very rewarding for us," said Jonathan Johnson with the Young Lawyers.

Members of the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association spend a lot of time and money each to make sure area children have something nice to open on Christmas day.

"Some of the bar association donates monetarily, other members take time shopping for the gifts," said Johnson.

But the toys do not stay there. After all of the gifts are collected, they go from the courtroom to the classroom.

"From here, the young lawyers, like myself, drive out to the various schools and deliver the toys to the kids," said Pohorelsky.

"It is such a blessing and a joy to give to our kids. Some of them don't have any Christmas gifts to receive," said Priscilla Bellard at Oak Park Elementary.
