Residents urged to take caution while driving in rain

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The OEP is asking residents to stay off local roads that usually flood because of the heavy rain that has been falling in the area.

They confirm that they have already had to rescue someone because of the flooding on Monday. They are asking you to not travel on the roads unless necessary.

So far, as of 4pm on Monday, 1.5 inches of rain fell in Lake Charles, 2 inches in Westlake, over 2.5 inches in Sulphur, and 3 inches in Vinton.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for our area. Rain is expected to continue into the evening hours, and overnight into Tuesday morning.

As usual, if a road is covered in water, the best idea is to not try to drive on it and find an alternate route.
