LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) – It might be mid-December, but the Swashbucklers' football season is just getting started.
Today the squad held a tryout under new head coach Shaddrick McAfee, and he didn't waste any time getting eleven Buc's hopefuls and five veteran players acclimated to his style of coaching. McAfee says he plans to keep the same playbook, but wants the Bucs to play at a faster pace.
Those trying out and the veterans didn't have trouble keeping up with McAfee, and overall he was pleased with what the players demonstrated.
"Youth is always a great thing in football," said McAfee, "It's just the nature of the game. Any time you can bring in new people, new faces, a new body that hasn't been banged on and beat up, that's always a good thing. They were very active, some of the guys had a little bit of experience, and I really liked that about the whole tryout experience."
McAfee plans to hold two more tryouts before the Bucs' season.
