Southern fires Richardson
LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Southern University has fired head football coach Pete Richardson.
Richardson has been with the program for the last 17 years. He won five conference titles as head coach of the Jaguars.
But over the last two seasons, Richardson's teams have had a combined record of just 10-10.
"After seventeen years, whoever the next coach will be, there will be some big shoes he'll have to fill," Southern athletic director Greg LaFleur said. "Coach Richardson has done an outstanding job here. He's dominated this conference over a long period of time. That won't be easy to replace."
Offensive line coach Damon Nivens will be the interim coach until a replacement is hired.
