Lake Charles gets money for multi-use trail

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The city of Lake Charles has been selected to receive $665,000 as part of the Transportation Enhancement Program to develop a multi-use trail along Highway 385.

The project will make pedestrian and bike trail improvements within the right-of-way along State Highway 385. The plan includes sidewalks, crosswalks, and areas with bike racks and benches.

The area includes the western edge of Lakeshore Drive from Broad Street to Clarence, limited sidewalk improvements along Clarence from Lakeshore to Ryan and South on Ryan to the Pithon Coulee Bridge.

The cost reimbursable Transportation Enhancement Program is administered through the State of Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.

The project is subject to Federal Highway Administration and State of Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development construction process and will have a three year window for implementation to get to the bidding phase.
