LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Today the City of Lake Charles plans to hold their annual "Light up the Lake Christmas Celebration."

The celebration kicked off with the Christmas parade lining the streets of downtown Lake Charles.

"We are here to enjoy to the Christmas parade," says Karen Frost. "My grandchildren are visiting from Houston and this is a perfect thing for the children."

But the fun did not end on the streets a inside the Lake Charles Civic Center families enjoy various holiday games at "Santa's Workshop."

"We went to each booth and got different little free books, participated in the games, and enjoyed some food," says Kissie Edwards. "We actually had a great time."

After dark around 6 p.m. the lighting of the tree and the grounds of the Civic Center topped off a full day of Christmas celebration.

"Christmas is about giving, it's about family, it's about sharing, and it's about loving each other," says Edwards. "If you're not with family then you're missing a lot of fun."

If you missed the celebration today, the light display on the grounds of the Lake Charles Civic Center will be up and running throughout the Christmas holiday season.
