What's Up at Calcasieu Parish Schools

Here are some of the things that are going on at the schools in Calcasieu Parish:

• Wonderland of Play students in Ethel Thibodeaux's class of three year olds will be featured as Hometown Patriots on KPLC TV this evening (Wed., Dec 2). They and their parents donated items to create care packages for a unit of soldiers in Iraq.

• Heather Gibson, Autism Teacher at College Oaks, has completed National Board Certification for Teachers

• DeQuincy High is the feature story in the latest issue of the Louisiana High Value High Schools newsletter. LaGrange was previously featured. Calcasieu is the only parish in Louisiana to have had two high schools featured.

• Sulphur High School photography students claimed 8 the 12 photographs selected for the Knight Media 2010 Photo Calendar. Over 180 photographs were entered in the competition.  The competition was open to any photographer in the area. Winners include: Shelby Kowarsch, Crabs in Cameron Parish; Joe Racca, Pond with Island and Sunset over Pond; John Hogg, Beauty in Strange Places and Peaceful Egret; Taylor Renae Edwards, Reflections and Underneath; and Erica Fisher, Peaceful.

• LeBleu Settlement Elementary Principal Jill Portie and LaGrange Principal Bobby Jack Thompson were recently honored in Washington, DC as Louisiana Principals of the Year in their respective categories.
