LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - LSU is investigating possible NCAA violations that involve the football team.
The school's athletic director, Joe Alleva, has confirmed that the investigation primarily involves an assistant coach and a student athlete that has not played in a football game this season.
KPLC's sister station, WAFB in Baton Rouge, says that sources say the coach in question is DJ Maccarthy - LSU's receivers coach. Their sources say that Alleva dismisses the allegations could be interpreted as a threat to Miles' position because of language in his contract with respect to knowledge of NCAA violations. In regards to the allegations, Alleva issued a statement.
"Compliance issues are routinely monitored by our compliance staff, and LSU is currently researching possible violations involving one assistant coach and on student athlete in the sport of football. The involved student athlete has not participated in competition for LSU. By procedure, the Southeastern Conference office has been made aware of this circumstance by LSU. Privacy concerns for the University employee and the student athlete preclude further comment at this time."
