Light up the Lake Christmas Celebration

LAKE CHARLES - Santa Claus is coming to town during the annual Light up the Lake Christmas Celebration! The Jolly Old Elf will take to the streets of Lake Charles during the annual Christmas parade, starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 5. Local groups, including schools, businesses, neighborhoods, organizations and performing groups will join Santa for a journey from Pine Street, south on Lakeshore to Clarence and north on Ryan to Pine Street.  Lake Charles Toyota/Scion will award prizes for the top two floats and marching bands, as well as the best decorated vehicle and best specialty group.  The Families Helping Families organization will serve as the Grand Marshal.

Santa's Workshop will take place in the Civic Center Coliseum from 3-5:30 p.m. Kids of all ages are invited to dawn their antlers and light-up noses to join in the reindeer games and ride the Christmas Train.  Prizes and gifts will be on the agenda with arts & crafts, food, activities, story telling, music and much more.

The Community Band Christmas Concert begins at 3:30 p.m. in the second floor Mezzanine.  Gather around the front lawn from 5-6 p.m. for more entertainment before Mayor Randy Roach flips the switch to light up the Civic Center grounds.  Also, your carriage awaits for $5 rides along the lakefront.

The evening will be topped off at 6:30 p.m. by the Fireworks Extravaganza sponsored by the Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau.  An area behind the Civic Center will be reserved for spectators. Tune in to 92.9 The Lake for the music simulcast.   The traditional lighted boat parade will be suspended from this year's agenda due to the lakefront beautification process.

With the exception of carriage rides, all events are free.  Parade entries will be accepted through Wednesday, December 2.  For entry forms or more information, please contact the City of Lake Charles at 491-9159, www.cityoflakecharles.com or the Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau at 436-9588, www.visitlakecharles.org.

Nice day to get outside on MondayNice day to get outside on Monday

Tonight, skies will be clear and we will have little to no chance for rain. It will not be as cold tonight. Temperatures will still get down to the 30s for Southwest Louisiana, but we should not see any freezing temperatures. If you head out tonight, you will still need to grab a coat. As we go through this week, the weather will be nothing less than perfect! We will have lots of sunshine and little to no chance for rain. We are on a gradual warming trend.
