Lake Charles, LA (KPLC)-Pinnacle Entertainment announced Tuesday scaled back plans for the Sugarcane Bay Casino to be built next to L'Auberge du Lac. The new plans call for a project costing an estimated $305 million down from $407 million, after plans for a retail shopping area were dropped. Also, according to a Pinnacle news release, the project would no longer be a stand alone project. Instead, it would be integrated with the existing L'Auberge du Lac and called Sugarcane Bay at L'Auberge du Lac. The new plans must be approved by the State Gaming Control Board, it's next meeting is December 15th.
Sugarcane Bay is expected to create about 700 construction jobs and 1,000 permanent jobs. Pinnacle said it expects to complete the Sugarcane Bay casino in late 2010 with the hotel opening in the first half of 2011..
