WESTLAKE, LA (KPLC) - A fatal motorcycle accident in Westlake claims the life of a Lake Charles man. When emergency crews arrived on the scene, they immediately started CPR but were not able to revive the victim. He was rushed to Christus St. Patrick Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. He's identified as 59-year-old Clifton Gire. According to police, witnesses say Gire attempted to make a left turn and was struck by a truck going in the opposite direction.
"There was green lights both ways. The motorcycle was making a left turn onto Sampson Street and failed to yield to oncoming traffic from Isle of Capri Blvd. He had a green light but no green arrow according to the witnesses," said Westlake Police Captain Michael Dickerson.
The driver of the truck that hit Gire volunteered a toxicology screen. Those results are pending.
