Jeff Davis parish schools sets dates to offer H1N1 vaccine

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Officials with Jeff Davis parish schools has specific dates for students to begin receiving H1N1 vaccinations the week after Thanksgiving.

Officials say many parents have told them that they would like for their children to receive the H1N1 vaccine.

Davis Clayton said that schools in Jeff Davis parish sent a survey home to parents asking if they would like for their child to get the H1N1 vaccine. Out of 5,900 students, 2,545 surveys were returned saying that they would like the vaccine to be administered to their child.

Forms are set to go home soon for parents to fill out allowing consent for the vaccine to be given to their child.

Below is the Office of Public Health's schedule for administering the vaccinations in Jeff Davis schools:

  • Monday, Nov. 30 - James Ward Elementary, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Dec. 1 - Jennings Elementary, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 2 - Lacassine High, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Fenton Elementary, 12 PM to 2 PM
  • Thursday, Dec. 3 - Hathaway High, 8 AM to 11 AM; Elton Elementary, 12 PM to 2 PM
  • Friday, Dec. 4 -Welsh Elementary, 8 AM to 2 PM
  • Monday, Dec. 7 - Lake Arthur Elementary, 8 AM to 2 PM

Schedules for a few other schools in the parish are still pending.

Students must have parental consent in order to receive the vaccinations.
