Lake Charles hosts Veteran's Day activities

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The City of Lake Charles, along with the Mayor's Armed Forces Commission, hosted the city's annual Veterans Day activities today.

The event honors the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces. It began with a service at the Veterans Memorial Park, where Mayor Randy Roach and Lt. Commander Robert Compher praised veterans. The service also included a tribute to the victims of Fort Hood.

The service was followed with a Veterans Day parade.Veterans served as parade marshals.

After the parade, local recruiting stations of the Army, Navy and Coast Guard, squared off in a friendly gumbo cook-off at the Lake Charles Civic Center.

The winner of the cook off will be announced. on Veterans Day.
