LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - It is just water, but when there is too much, it can start to have some damaging effects. And just as the flood water is starting to recede you can expect some more.
Sheriff Tony Mancuso said, while many people like to get out and see how the water gets, they sometimes fail to realize that may cause more damage to near by homes.
"Some people's houses, that would not flood if traffic would stay off of the streets, are getting water in their houses," said Sheriff Tony Mancuso.
Another reason to stay off of flooded roads is because it can be dangerous to the driver. With the last batch of weather, emergency responders and wrecker services worked around the clock pulling stranded vehicles from the water.
"Anytime you have a heckling with weather you stay busy. If there is water on the road and you see flooding, do not drive in it. Because, you are taking your life at risk. You never know what is underneath," said Guy Benitez owner of Guys Towing.
