Child pornography investigation

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A lake area man faces some serious charges after police uncover incriminating evidence on his home computer. 66 year old Phillip Ward was arrested two weeks ago and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on child pornography charges. The investigation surrounding the former Sowela professor continues.

"Investigators obtained a search warrant and executed that search warrant at his home. They did find child pornography images on his personal computer," said Louisiana State Trooper Stephen LaFargue.

Mr. Ward no longer teaches at Sowela. When we contacted the college they provided us with the following statement.

"Phillip Ward resigned from his instructional position at Sowela Technical Community College on Monday, October 12. On that day, Sowela administration implemented a thorough review of the college's computer provided to Mr. Ward for instructional use. There is no evidence to suggest that Mr. Ward used the college's technology resources to receive, review or distribute inappropriate or incriminating materials. No other contact has been made with Mr. Ward."

As to the images found on his home computer, there are still some unanswered questions.

"The investigation continues as to how the images got on the computer, who was involved with these images, and was Mr. Ward involved with these images. We will turn over all of the evidence to the District Attorneys office where they will determine the charges," said Trooper LaFargue.

Phillip Ward has been released from the Calcasieu Correctional Center on a seventy-five thousand dollar bond.
