Questions surround the death of a Lake Charles man

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The death of Nicholas Fuselier is full of unanswered questions, right down to the cause of death. Many close to Nicholas Fuselier say the reason for his death is just as puzzling.

"I heard a gun shot but I thought it was way back in the projects, so I just put my head back down on the pillow," said Rashad Wiltz.

But those shots may have been closer than he realized. Moments later the body of Nicholas Fuselier was discovered, right next door.

"Somebody was down in front of the neighbors house, dead," said Wiltz.

Police are still investigating this case and currently have not released any suspects. Some from within the community said this should serve as a wake up call, proving that violence is not the answer.

"It is time for us to change. It is time for us to bring peace back into the neighborhoods," said Andres Tubbs.

The people who knew Nicholas best said this was quite unexpected, describing him as someone that would not have many enemies.

"I raised Nicholas. Nicholas was a good child. Anything I needed him to do, he would do it for me. If I needed someone to go to the store for me, he would go. If I was sick, he would be by my side," said Wilda Richard.

"We know that he is a quite kid. He minds his own business," said Andres Tubbs.

While many believe Nicholas was shot, Lake Charles police are waiting for more evidence.

"We are waiting on the coroner's inquest to determine what the manner of death is. We have an idea what that manner of death is, but we want that information supported by the coroner's office before we proceed in that arena," said Sergeant Mark Kraus with the Lake Charles Police Department.
