LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The fire insurance rates DeQuincy homeowners are paying right now will soon be reduced.
Commissioner of Insurance Jim Donelon says it's because the community and local officials in DeQuincy have improved their fire protection grading from a Class 5 to a 4. That means a home that's valued at $150,000, for example, could see savings of close to $100 in annual premiums.
Donelon says that amount could vary, however, depending on the property value, the fire district where it's located, and the rate schedule of the company insuring the property.
The reduction will take effect November 9.
