NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles and St. Tammany Parish will get nearly $13.5 million in federal grant s for community development and affordable housing. U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan announced the grant s Thursday in New Orleans.
All four areas are getting community development block grant s - Baton Rouge $4.2 million, Lake Charles $868,500, St. Tammany Parish $1.1 million and Lafayette $1.6 million. Lake Charles is also getting $868,500 and Baton Rouge $2.3 million for affordable housing. And Baton Rouge is getting another $186,000 for emergency shelter and $1.7 million for housing or rent for people with HIV/AIDS.
