SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) - Organizers for the Cal Cam Fair have rescheduled the event, which was originally scheduled to run from Wednesday through Saturday this week. The new tentative date is now November 4th through the 8th.
All the rain from the last few days has saturated the fair grounds, making it nearly impossible for the thousands of were expected to attend to stand in line for a corn dog, much less park their vehicles without fear of getting stuck.
This marks only the third time in its 85 year history the fair has not taken place when it was suppose to. The fair was also delayed or cancelled all together in 1943 at the height of World War II and in 2005 after Hurricane Rita, which caused around $500,000 in losses.
Cal Cam Fair Board Chairman Wilridge Doucet says fair-goers aren't the only one suffering by rescheduling the fair. Businesses and organizations who have booths will suffer too, as many of them bought food this week, that cannot be stored until November.
The beauty pageant, one of the fair's most popular attractions, will be held November 4-6.
