Some SWLA schools to offer flu vaccines

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The death toll in Louisiana from the H1N1 virus continues to rise.  State health officials say the number of deaths now stands at 14. Three victims from the southeastern part of the state have died in the past week.

We're just learning that school officials in Jeff Davis Parish have made the decision to offer the H1N1 vaccine to students voluntarily.  Two other school systems are offering the seasonal flu vaccine - those are Cameron and Vernon Parishes.

Calcasieu school officials say neither a seasonal, nor a swine flu vaccine will be offered, but the school board tells us they would be willing to work with local health officials to offer the vaccine if the need arose.

We're still waiting for a response from superintendents in Allen and Beauregard Parishes.
