Swine flu deaths in Louisiana increase to 14

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The death toll from swine flu in Louisiana now stands at 14. The state health department said Monday that three victims died in the past week.

The Advocate newspaper in Baton Rouge reports that one victim was a woman from the New Orleans area. Another was a man from the health department's Region 3, which includes St. James, St. John, St. Charles, Lafourche, Terrebonne, Assumption and St. Mary parishes. Another was from Region 4, which covers the parishes of Evangeline, St. Landry, Acadia, Lafayette, St. Martin, Vermilion and Iberia.

    The National Hurricane Center continues to highlight an area in Gulf for potential tropical development over the next five days. This area to watch is currently located south of the Yucatan Peninsula and strong wind shear will keep this area at a 0% chance of development over the next couple of days before increasing late-week and weekend as it pushes into the Gulf.
