Grand jury indicts Gueydan man

CAMERON, LA (KPLC) A Gueydan man accused of hitting and killing a woman while driving drunk is facing life in prison after he is indicted by the Cameron Parish grand jury.

The Cameron Parish District Attorney's office says Toby Matt is facing several serious charges including second degree murder and vehicular homicide. Matt's also looking at a couple of drug charges, said Asst. District Attorney Jennifer Jones . The DA's office says a warrant for Matt's arrest was issued Monday morning.

Back in January, 23-year-old Kasie Hendrickson Hicks was walking toward the boat club on highway 717 just south of Lake Arthur, authorities say that's when she was hit by Matt who was allegedly driving drunk. He was arrested then for DWI, but bonded out of jail. If he's convicted, the DA's office says this could be the first second degree murder case in 15 years.
