LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - They were making way for a new home in Sulphur today. Volunteers demolished the home that has sat at 611 Crocket Street in Sulphur since the 1930s. Volunteers with "Rebuilding Together" along with the City of Sulphur, Sulphur Police Department and Sulphur Fire Department helped tear the home down to make way for a new one.

The old home had taken on damage from Hurricane Rita and the homeowner didn't have the means to repair it.

"Rebuilding Together reaches out to people that are in need to them either rebuild or demolish the home. My father did not have the means to do so and these guys are just a blessing," said Lisa Elder.

"I really appreciate all the help and all the kind people that done the work it was really nice of them," Herman Clavier.

No word yet on when construction of the new home will begin.
