LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Several neighborhood streets in Sulphur were really busy Saturday morning as hundreds of people from across Southwest Louisiana took part in the American Cancer Society "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" five mile walk and run.
The event helps raise awareness and money to fight breast cancer. Organizers say, all and all, this first annual event was a huge success.
"We're excited to announce that we've actually raised over 50-thousand dollars with the first year event and it was all from individuals in Southwest Louisiana and so we're looking forward to many successful events in the future," said Katie McCarty, American Cancer Society Community Representative.
Since "Making Strides" began in 1993, five million walkers and runners have helped raise more than 340-million dollars for breast cancer research.
