LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A Moss Bluff woman has her dog Benjamin to thank for saving her life this morning just minutes before her house went up in flames.

The homeowner says around 4 a.m., she was awakened by her dog to smoke in the house. She says she got out of the house and tried to wake her neighbors for help. Once help arrived, the Ward 1 Fire Department battled the blaze with the help of several other agencies.

Fire officials say no one was hurt, but the damage to the home is very severe.  The investigation into what caused the fire continues.

The homeowner says she's been in the home for more than 20 years. She was the only one home at the time.
