From KPLC Staff:
Lake Charles, LA (KPLC)- The governor's office says it's stopped state funds going to the controversial community group ACORN. Last week, Governor Jindal barred state agencies from entering into contracts that would send state funds to ACORN. On Tuesday, the governor's office said two contracts would have sent money to ACORN, including one in southwest Louisiana.
The governor's office says under a contract that was being considered by the state Department of Social Services, ACORN would have been hired as a subcontractor to work with the United Way of Southwest Louisiana. Under the contract, ACORN workers would have helped with a tax assistance program funded with state and federal money.
