LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The U.S. military says a civilian contractor has been shot and killed on an American military base in Iraq, and the victim is reportedly from Southwest Louisiana.

Twenty-seven year old Lucas Vinson was an employee of Houston-based KBR. It's the primary support contractor in Iraq, providing troops with essential services like housing, meals, mail delivery and laundry.

In an emailed statement to the American Press, Vinson's brother says Lucas is from Leesville.

Authorities say another U.S. soldier has been detained in connection with the incident.

They say the shooting happened at Camp Speicher in Tikrit.

A military statement says the Army is leading the investigation into the matter.

In an emailed statement to the American Press, Vinson's family says quote, "He was a friend to everyone who knew him, a peace-maker, a great big brother with a heart of gold."
