State Police warning drivers

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - With all the rain expected to fall this weekend, drivers need to be aware of the wet conditions. Sgt. Stephen LaFargue with Louisiana State Police Troop D urges drivers to take caution when on wet roadways.

"We see people rushing out there. When we work these crashes out on the roadway they are following too close and they are in a hurry to get to there destination, if you are traveling this weekend anywhere: Take your time, give yourself some distance time and make that a safe distance a little more where you are not too close for people," said LaFargue.

Sgt. LaFargue says the three second rule is in effect, but advises drivers to keep a distance of at least five seconds when roads are wet to allow themselves enough time to react to the unexpected.
