Locals remember 9/11

It's been eight years since the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. Today, Americans are paying tribute to the victims lost on that day with remembrance ceremonies.

This morning, the local branch of the U.S. Coast Guard lowered the flags outside its building to half-staff.

McNeese State University has also put together 9/11 remembrance events. A table has been set up in the Student Union Annex building (New Ranch) to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11, as well as the victims of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

At McNeese State University, the ROTC raised the American flag to half-staff. Several band members will also be on hand playing "Taps."

Some also spent the day performing service projects, like Rebuilding Together, a volunteer organization that preserves low-income homes.

Today, they handed out energy-efficient information at Prien Lake Mall.
