Fire leaves South Beauregard High without concession stand

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Tonight the football game at South Beauregard High School will have to go on without the concession stand.

The Beauregard Sheriff's Office responded to a call at 11:30 PM last night and found the school's concession stand engulfed in flames.

The loss of the concession stand leaves the school and community searching for answers.

"It's just aggravating," says Brittany Matrona, a student at South Beauregard High School.

Martrona says she put a lot of hard work in to building the facility.

"I don't think they understand what we did to make it work and they're just going to tear it down like it was nothing," says Martrona.

South Beauregard High School Principal Ramsey says the fire comes on the eve of the school's first home football game.

"They had just stocked it last night with the full inventory," says Moses. "All of the freezers and all of the coke coolers were completely ready."

Beauregard Sheriff Ricky Moses says the suspect(s) left traces behind.

"We saw some candy scattered outside the building so we believe they burglarized the concession stands before they set it on fire," says Moses.

The suspects attempted to destroy more than the concession stands.

"They attempted to set the bathrooms on fire, apparently they melted the water line and the water line extinguished the fire," says Moses.

Despite all of the destruction caused by the fire, Principal Ramsey says the school has made preparations for tonight's game.

"We will have some type of temporary concession set up and we'll be able to use our rest rooms so we'll be ready to play football tonight," says Ramsey.

Beauregard Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person(s) responsible.

If you have any information, you can call them at 1-800-273-1374.
