LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - An under ground crude oil leak has Conoco Phillips on clean up duty. An estimated fifty to one hundred barrels of crude oil has leaked out of an under ground storage line in Carlyss. It has been contained to a ditch on neighboring property and crews are working around the clock to clean up the mess.

"We do have a response team on site. They are working to clean up the material. The plan is for them to work throughout the night, not only to contain but to recover, and clean up the material. The cause of the leak is undetermined right now. We do know that it is an underground storage line," said Carol Collins, Public Relations Director for Conoco Phillips.

Officials at Conoco Phillips said an investigation will be launched to try and determine what caused the leak. Meanwhile, Conoco Phillips said the environment and the community are not at risk.
