Jerome Thomas convicted of 2004 restaurant shooting

A jury finds Jerome Thomas guilty in the first Calcasieu Parish case to turn up a suspect based on the nationwide DNA database called Codis.

The jury returned after two hours of deliberations finding Thomas guilty of attempted first degree murder and attempted armed robbery.

The crime occurred outside Pats of Henderson restaurant back in 2004.

There was a shoot out between two robbers and two victims. A bullet allegedly grazed the head of one of the robbers leaving blood and skin on a cap. The DNA on that cap is what led authorities to Thomas.

Sentencing is set for 9 a.m., October 23.
