Deputies arrest Pitkin man for murder of DeRidder woman

Lake Charles, LA (KPLC)-Just hours after she was laid to rest, an arrest in the murder of Kimberly Ann Stephens.

Thursday evening the Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office said it had arrested and charged 32-year old Billie Jo Weldon of Pitkin.

Last week, the body of Kimberly Ann Stephens was found near DeRidder. An autospy revealed she died as a result of blunt force trauma to the the head. The Beauregard Parish Sheriff's is releasing few details at this time, but did confirm to 7 News that Weldon was jailed without bond.

Authorities said cell phone records led them to suspect Weldon. Deputies said the records indicate Stephens and Weldon knew each other, but it's unclear just how much. Stephen's family said they had never even heard of Weldon before he was arrested.

Deputies continue their investigation. They're also searching Weldon's home and vehicle.

Authorities say they believe Weldon acted alone.

The sheriff said he is waiting for a forensics report, which he hopes will answer more questions.
