Parish allocated $17.7-Million by LRA For Ike/Gustav

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - At Wednesday night's regular Lake Charles City Council meeting Mayor Randy Roach encouraged council members to submit recommendations to the parish on what to do with 17.7-million dollars from the Louisiana Recovery Authority for Ike and Gustav recovery.

The parish is in charge of allocating and spending of the money. Mayor Roach says the money will be spent on projects that will have a parish wide impact and that Lake Charles will get about 34% of the money. One of the projects being considered is improvements to the Lake Charles Civic Center.

"Those improvements are improvements to what we would say harden the Civic Center and make it more easily adapted to be used as a shelter during a hurricane evacuation or in a hurricane recovery situation," said Mayor Roach.

Recommendations on what to do with the money need to be submitted by September 13th.
