Preparing for the "Second Amendment Tax Holiday"

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The Second Amendment is one thing a gunsmith never forgets.

Now the state's Legislature is creating Louisiana's first "Second Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday."

The holiday is scheduled to run from 12:01 AM on Friday, September 4th through 12 midnight, Sunday, September 6th.

During this three-day period all fire arms, ammunition, and hunting supplies will be exempt from the state sales tax.

Hunting supplies include archery items, hunting apparel, and miscellaneous hunting equipment.

Despite the scheduled holiday, Earl Gothreaux of Hunter's Supplies and  Pistol Range says gun sales have continued to peak since the Presidential elections in November.

"A lot of people are buying ammunition and stocking up because they think it could be banned altogether," says Gothreaux.

Gothreaux also feels the recent murders in Jeff Davis Parish have also driven more people to stock up on defense.

Gunsmiths at the pistol range have been training more and more folks recently to shoot guns and defend themselves more properly.

Overall, Hunter's Supplies and Pistol Range expects plenty of customers to walk through his doors this coming "2nd Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday."

The Saharan dust has diminished a lot more since yesterday and the particle numbers are down. We are still in a moderate zone, so you should still use caution if you have any allergies or breathing issues. Throughout the day, the clouds will be clearing, and the rain should stay away from us. There will still be a lot of humidity in place and hot temperatures.  By the afternoon, there should be lots of sunshine. That will increase the temperatures more.
