LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -Bean bag toss, dancing, art projects, these were just some of the things kids where doing this year at United Way's annual Family and Youth Festival.

But, amongst all the fun there was learning going on at the career path section of the festival. Denise Durel with United Way said this allowed kids to get a head start on their college education.

"Kids who are still in high school can come down and talk with people that are in the profession that they might be interested in. This gives them a hands on experience to help make a decision as they go on to college and enter in to life," said Denise Durel with United Way.

Mia Johnson has a passion for cooking and she is not wasting anytime getting started. The Sowela mobile kitchen was her first stop.

"Since this is what I want to do later in life for a career, I decided this would probably be a good place to start looking around," said Mia Johnson.
