LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The man who escaped from the Cameron Parish Jail earlier this month has been caught. Deputies with the Pemiscot County Sheriff's Department apprehended 47-year-old Richard Stevens near Caruthersville, Missouri.

Stevens escaped from the Cameron jail on August 8, after a jailer committed a procedural violation. At the time, he was being held for possession of stolen items, possession of a stolen vehicle, and resisting an officer.

Extradition papers will be filed to try and get Stevens returned to Cameron Parish. He also faces a charge of possession of stolen guns in Vernon Parish and possession of a stolen vehicle in Beauregard Parish.

Stevens, who also used the alias Richard Laracuente, was also being held on burglary and theft charges out of Oregon.
