Louisiana shrimpers protest low prices

From the Associated Press:

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana shrimpers are threatening to go on strike because of low prices that they say make it impossible to make a profit.

Several hundred protested on the state Capitol steps on Tuesday. They came to Baton Rouge from all along Louisiana's coast, including St. Bernard, Plaquemines and Lafourche parishes.

Several elected officials addressed the crowd, including U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon. The Democrat from Napoleonville said he wants a congressional hearing next month to look into allegations of price-fixing in the shrimp market.
