LC Firefighters again voting on contract

By Theresa Schmidt - bio | email

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Lake Charles firefighters are again voting on that same contract they turned down a little more than a week ago.

Voting started Thursday at the Fire Department Training center on Common Street and continues there from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. On Friday and Saturday.

The votes are expected to be tallied Saturday night, soon after voting ends.

The Lake Charles City Council is expected to take some action finalizing the situation with firefighters at their meeting next Wednesday.  One item on the agenda would authorize entering into a contract while, in the alternative, another item authorizes implementation of a pay plan for the fire department.

For our Thursday, it is another hot day. The temperatures will reach the lower to mid 90s again. It will feel more like 103-105 degrees, at least for a brief time. There could be a few small showers that pop up. I have the rain chances at only 30%, though. So, not everyone will see rain. Overnight, it will be generally clear with only a few passing clouds. I do not expect any rain. It should be a nice evening if you have any outdoor plans. It will be very warm and muggy.

YouTube has reportedly pulled the trailer for the new horror movie "The Nun", according to a tweet from Team YouTube.  On August 12, a six-second trailer for the new film was released. However, the visuals are not for the faint of heart.  Warning: This video is disturbing:  The trailer begins by showing the signature Apple "volume down" icon. The icon appears to be lowering itself which may trick a viewer into believing the volume is down...
