New technology helps Coast Guard rescue teens

Reported by KPLC Staff:

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -Two teens were plucked from their sinking boat Monday morning. According to the Coast Guard, they were about 30 miles south of Sabine Pass when their 21-foot vessel starting taking on water. They sent out a may-day message, and that's when the Coast Guard says new technology made the rescue much easier.

The Rescue 21 system made it easier for the Coast Guard to pinpoint where the distress call came from. It helped the Coast Guard helicopter locate the teens and hoist them to safety before their boat sank.
