LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Lightning is blamed for a fire at Dry Creek Baptist Camp in Beauregard Parish.

DCBC Program Director Aaron Watkins tells 7News that around 2:00 Monday afternoon, a line of strong thunderstorms moved through the area and witnesses at the camp say lightning hit one building.

Watkins says the fire quickly engulfed the building.  Fortunately, there were no injuries, but three staffers lost everything they had inside the cabin.  "Best we could tell it started at the air conditioner," says Watkins, "the electrical fire started when the window unit got struck by lightning and it spread from there, pretty quickly."

Within 20 minutes, the entire cabin was engulfed.  Watkins says the fire won't impact the day-to-day operations for the campers and staffers.
