St. Patrick RN receives certification in Diabetes Education

Teresa Goree, RN with CHRISTUS St. Patrick Hospital has recently achieved Certified Diabetes Educator status by successfully completing the Certification Examination for Diabetes Educators.  As the coordinator for St. Patrick's Diabetes Management program since 2005, Goree met a number of rigorous eligibility requirements necessary for the certification, including:

RN with a minimum of two years of professional practice experience in self-management education.

  • A minimum of 1,000 hours of diabetes self-management education experience
  • Current employment in a defined diabetes educator role providing diabetes self-management education a minimum of four hours per week.

Achieving certification status demonstrates to people with diabetes and employers that Goree possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for people with diabetes.

Goree has been a CHRISTUS Associate since 1988 - first with CHRISTUS St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, and most recently with CHRISTUS Home Care where she was instrumental in having the new CHRISTUS Hospice program acquire its initial accreditation.

The Diabetes Management Program at St. Patrick Hospital is a 10 hour comprehensive curriculum that teaches patients to self manage their diabetes. The center helps patients gain confidence in making good choices about meals, exercise and medication.

The St. Patrick Diabetes Management Center was recently awarded continued Recognition from the American Diabetes Association for offering high-quality education services to their patients since July of 2003.

The Diabetes Management Program has also recently been accepted for expansion at Jennings American Legion Hospital.
